10 Reasons I Would Rather Be in London...
1. There is ALWAYS something to do! It could be midnight and there will be as many people on the street as there is at noon.
2. Galaxy chocolate bars. Oh my gosh I can't even talk about them without drooling! Mmmmmm.
3. Awesome accents. Let's face it, everything sounds better in a British accent ,yeah?
4. Piccadilly Circus( see pic above, which I took btw :-p) It's beautiful and has the biggest HMV I have ever seen in my life! The pic is what you see as soon as you come up from the Underground station. Speaking of which...
5. The Tube. Definitely the best way to get around and it's like a different world down there. Mind the gap! Don't obstruct the doors! Next stop: Baker Street!
6. Red. Red buses, red telephone booths, red post boxes. It's seriously everywhere. Nothing says London like a big red bus.
7. English Hello!. It kicks Canadian Hello!'s bum. It's twice the size and half the price( even with exchange rate). And call me weird but English news print smells soooo much better...just sayin'.
8.No tax. Well, there is but it's already calculated in the price. So if the chocolate bar you're buying for the fifth night in a row costs 1 pound, you give the cashier 1 pound. What a concept! I don't know about you but I love paying for things with one coin!
9.THE HISTORY!!! Most buildings in London have been there waaaaaay before Canada was even discovered! The Tower of London has been there since the 10 00's!
10. One Direction lives there. You knew I would mention them at some point!;-p. Any city where there is a chance of running into 1D is pretty awesome.

That Awesome Moment When...
...You're reading the blog post of someone who got to go to the 1D concert and moping cuz you didn't get to go, when What Makes You Beautiful comes on the London( yes the one in the U.K) radio station you are listening to. Of course then you need to belt out the entire song, right? Plus what if the boys were listening to the same station!?!

Whatcha Listening To?: The Sequel
Hi all! I've been thinking about doing this post for a bit so here it is.:-p
Has anyone heard of Ed Sheeran? If you haven't you're missing out! He is a British singer who just recently released his album + (yes, that's the actual name! Lol) here in North America. He is very popular in the U.K but unfortunately he isn't as well known on this side of the Atlantic.
Hmmm... how do you describe his sound. He is kind of like and English John Mayer but different again. Kind of folk-y but not really. Wow great description, huh? I really, like A Team, Lego House and Kiss Me but I have to say Give Me Love is my favourite. Take a listen:

One of the things I really like about this album is the variety of styles. The sound is really unique.
I was reading a story on Wattpad a couple weeks ago and the author posted a song called Kiss Me Slowly by Parachute. I loved it! Here is if you want to check it out:
I went on Vevo to check out some of their other stuff and it's really, really good but no one I've talked to has heard of them. I haven't got the album this song is from but If I do, I'll review it here.
Have any of you guys heard of Parachute?

(That's supposed to be to the tune of the Batman theme in case you are wondering :-) )
A few months ago I started posting stories on a really cool website called Wattpad. It's basically like YouTube but for stories. So I thought it would be a good idea to post the link for my profile here:http://www.wattpad.com/user/Brezzer93
Pleeeeaaase go check it out and tell me what you think!!!

So it has come it to my attention lately that it really sucks when people hate on things that you like:-) So, in the intrest of fairness and to make sure I'm not doing the same thing to anyone else, I'm taking this time to give props to stuff( and people) who bug me.
Props!

My Heart's a Stereo...Not a Stereo-Type
Usually when you're in High School you do everything you can to fit in. When I was in High School I did the opposite. I was terrified of being just another stereo-typical teenager. And that's fine. I prefered history and reading to pretty much anything and I still do. I didn't want to be another giggly self absorbed girl. I wanted to be different.
But here's the thing I've learned over the last few months: being diffrent and being different for the sake of being diffrent aren't the same. Example: If I saw a cute shirt at Stitches I wouldn't buy it. Not because I didn't like it but because eneryone bought their clothes there. But here's the thing, ladies and gentlemen: not doing what you want because everyone else is doing it is just as bad as doing something because everyone else is. You with me?
In the book I'm reading the main character said she would rather be in the library reading a book then discussing lipgloss and movie stars. Which is cool. But my question is: why do you have to choose? Can't you like books and lipgloss? I certainly do! We have this misconception that you have to be one thing or the other. You have to fit into a slot. But I like all sorts of things because there are all sorts of sides to my personality. I'm the girl who is perfectly content(prefers sometimes) to sit alone in my room with a book and a cup of tea. I'm also the girl who plays 1,2,3 with her friends at Wonderland and giggles until her sides hurt. I can be both. I'm the girl who reads Shakespeare and Seventeen magazine. I'm the girl who loves One Direction and Green Day and Elvis.
I'm so done with choosing one over the other because I'm worried people won't think I'm different enough. I always thought being unique would get me noticed but I would rather just do whatever makes me happy. I'm all sorts of things so why just choose one?
Nowadays I get that shirt at Stitches and rock it my way. I feel free to admit that I strongly suspect Justin Beiber is talented even if he bugs me for some reason I can't put my finger on. I buy the gossipy magazine and the novel. Because I don't have to be anyone or anything but ME!

In honour of my new theme, here is the amazing video for 1D's song One Thing! Whooohooo!
Shout out to Brookie, who is probably the only one reading this! ;-p
Confessions of a Cosmetics Junkie: Part 2
I was in Shopper's Drug Mart a couple of weeks ago and I stumbled across a new brand of make-up called Essence. It's originally from Europe and here is the cool part: Everything is under $5! How awesome is that? Sooo I just had to buy a bunch of stuff and share what I think with you guys!
Sooo the first thing I got was the Tint It! colour changing lip gloss in 01Turn to Happy
Ahhhhhh I love this thing so much! I've been wanting a marker style liquid eyeliner for a long time but they are usually pretty pricey, so I was extremely happy when I spotted this one. It was $2.99, I think. It has a nice thick tip and the colour lasts all day long. This thing makes doing a cat eye super easy! LOVE IT!
Then I got the Stay with Me Long Lasting Lip gloss in 03 Candy Bar
I think this is one of my favourite lip glosses. First off, I love the pink/orange colour. Also it lasts a really long time and then there is the really cool applicator that contours to your lips so you can apply colour evenly. Awesome!
The next product I bought is the Smokey Eyes Set in 01 So What?
This is my first gel eyeliner and I'm really impressed. It was way easier to apply than I expected. The colour is intense and a nice change from the usual black or brown.
And finally, the Colour and Shine eyeshadow in 08 Joyride to Jupiter
This eyeshadow is sooo pretty! It's a kinda silver-y green. The colour pay off is pretty good, especially if you apply it with a damp brush.
As of now, there are only a few products from this line available in Canada. Head to your local Shopper's and check them out!
Sooo the first thing I got was the Tint It! colour changing lip gloss in 01Turn to Happy
This is really cool! It starts of a sort of lavender-y purple but darkens to a nice shade of pink when applied. The pink colour kinda adjusts to whatever you're wearing. Also this lip gloss also acts like a stain so it has pretty good staying power. The only down side is it has a perfume-y smell that smells nice but doesn't taste every good. (Not that I ate it but you know what I mean:-p) Overall, this is a pretty nice lip gloss.
The next thing I bought was the Eyeliner Pen

The really cool part of this set it that it comes with a black cream eyeliner as well as a sparkly grey eye shadow and a duel-ended applicator. That's not something you see very often. I've only used it once but I was quite happy with it.
The next thing I got was the gel eyeliner in 05 Miami's Ink, which is a silver/grey colour.I also got the brush to go with it.

What I'm Listening To
Hi whoever is reading this!:-)
Over the last few days I have listened to some albums that have really blown me away so I'm going to rave over them here.
The first is Ever After by Marianas Trench. I've liked a few of their songs for awhile but they are not the best band in the world or anything, in my humble opinon( that spot is taken now and forever by The Beatles). However, my cousin lent me Ever After and I have to say it is really brilliant.
It's very different from MT's previous stuff. I've heard it described as techno-y and it kinda is but that doesn't really describe it. It's unique. In the album notes there is a story about a girl named Porcelain trapped in a toy factory by an evil Queen and how a guy comes to her rescue(see Wikipedia for a much better explaination :-) ). The songs kinda follow this story line. The whole thing is a little like a musical. The first song, Ever After, introduces a meldoy that is woven through the entire album. The last song, No Place Like Home, is the grande finale where bits and pieces of almost all the other songs are woven together. All of the songs flow together as one so you don't really get the whole effect unless you listen to the album all at once. My favourite slow song is definitely Porcelain but my favourite up tempo song is a toss up between Fallout and Stutter.
This album is soooo good! There is just one thing left to be said: And they lived happily ever after. The end...
The other album I'm loving this week is the Smash soundtrack. Kathrine McPhee and Megan Hilty are soooo incredibly talented! I especially love Who You Are. One of the things I love about this album is the mixture of covers and original songs. The musical numbers like The 20th Century Fox Mambo are so much fun and Let Me Be Your Star is just plain awesome! The whole thing is definitly worth a listen.

Things That Make You Go GRRRRRRR!
Have you ever been super excited to get tickets to a concert? Have you ever been all ready to get tickets as soon as they go on sale only to find the show is already SOLD OUT!?! I have and it's one of the most annoying things in the entire world!
And what makes it even more annoying is that a huge chunk of those tickets go to radio stations and promotional companies. How unfair is that? The rest of us hardly even get the chance to get a hold of tickets because they are already taken by big companies.
Radio stations then "give away" free to tickets but we all know what the chances of actually winning those tickets are. I was listening to a station today that was giving away free tickets to the first person who called in, but there was a catch. You had to put the phone in the dryer and if the call wasn't dropped than you got the tickets. Who even thought of that? That's beyond stupid!!!
GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!
Has anyone else ever had this problem?

One Direction Infection!!!
Hiiiiiiiiii! I know it's been awhile since I've written but I haven't really been inspired and I didn't want to bore you by rambling about nothing :-( But now I actually have something to ramble about! Yay! The topic? One Direction.
I'm well aware that those two words will cause squeals from some and groans from others but hear me out before you jump to conclusions. I'm not going to lie, I'm definitely on the squealing side of this argument. I can't help it! I've never been the type to like music just because it's popular(sorry, Justin Bieber!) so I can honestly say I don't think One Direction is awesome because everyone else thinks so. I think 1D is awesome because they are really, really talented...alright...also because the really, really cute and BRITISH! But that is beside the point.;-p.
One Direction( Louis Tomlinson, Liam Payne, Harry Styles,Zayn Malik and Niall Horan) came third on The X Factor last year but in many ways they were the real winners. They all originally entered as solo artists but were later put in a group in order to move on in the competition. Some people think this is a negative thing but I think it just goes to show how talented they really are.
Their first album Up All Night came out here in North America on March 13 and since then I've listened to it about a million times. They have a really unique sound, in my humble opinion. There is a good mixture of upbeat, dance songs and slower ballads. It's one of those albums that you can listen to whatever mood you are in. My favourite song is What Makes You Beautiful. It's just really catchy and fun and makes me wish that summer would just hurry up and get here already! I also really like One Thing, Tell Me a Lie, Stole My Heart, Moments...okay pretty much every song. I can honestly say there isn't a song on Up All Night that I don't like. At first I didn't like Gotta Be You as much as some of the other ones but now it has really grown on me. In fact, the more I listen to the whole album the more I like it.
There is another reason why I like 1D so much...here it goes... they remind me of The Beatles. I know, I know. Can you even compare the two? Well, yes. You can. Of course ,they're both British. That one is obvious. But it's more than just that. Their sense of humour and the easiness between them reminds me of The Beatles in the early days. Even thought the boys of 1D didn't know each other before The X Factor they are obviously good friends now and love to joke around and have a laugh. The Beatles were the same way. All you need to do is watch the interview scene in A Hard Day's Night to see that(Reporter: What do you call that haircut? George: Arthur). When you watch the video diaries that One Direction did while on The X Factor you really see they're sense of humor, which isn't wildly different from The Beatles(Question: What's your favourite pick-up line? Louis: Will you marry me? Harry: Simple, but effective.)
The Beatles and One Direction are a bit similar musically too. They both use harmonies in similar ways and the beginning of I Want sounds an awful lot like the beginning of Good Day, Sunshine.
I really, really hope that we hear more from One Direction in the future and they don't just fizzle out like so many artists seem to. Until then, make sure you have a listen to Up All Night!

Re-tellings: Good or Evil?
I have been on a major Shakespeare kick of late, in case you haven't noticed lol. But this time (it's a re-occurring thing) I've discovered a lot of really cool re-tellings of Shakespeare's plays that I thought I would share here.
I have to start out by saying that not all re-tellings are created equal. Some can be clumsy and more than a little ridiculous. But some are actually really brilliant and thought provoking. Falling for Hamlet by Michelle Ray is a case in point.
The book is told from the point of view of Hamlet's on-again-off-again girlfriend Ophelia. And it is set in modern times. Not gonna lie, I was a little skeptical about the whole thing. But I gave it a shot and I'm glad I did. Ophelia was a very likable , feisty sort of character but she wasn't one sided. She was genuinely torn between her father and Hamlet and it seemed very real. I also found Hamlet likable, surprisingly enough. I felt bad for him.
What surprised me most about this book was how intense it was. I mean, I've read the play and everthing but I was expecting this book to be fluffier somehow. It kept me on the edge of my seat, rooting for the characters. It sticks pretty close to the play which is good but it also makes it rough at times because some of the dialouges and situations don't quite fit in the modern settings. That is easily forgiven, though, becauuse some things are explained better in this verision. For example the scene where, in the play,
Ophelia( driven mad by all the crazy stuff going on around her) confronts Queen Gertrude and King Claudius with basket of flowers and crazy limericks. In this version, this is explained by a depression induced drinking binge. Quite frankly, I find this more believeable than the original she's-crazy-all-of-the-sudden expalination.
The relationship between Hamlet and Ophelia is really heart breaking. They are really cute in the beginning and when everything spirals into maddness it's really sad. Ophelia is faced with hating Hamlet for killing her family and still loving the person he was before her world fell apart.
This book is so great!
Oh where to start? I LOVE THIS BOOK!!! I'm not kidding. It's fanatastic!
O,Juliet by Robin Maxwell is the best kind of re-telling. It's based on Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet, for the record:-) It takes place in Florence around the same time as the original. The story is based around Juliet Capelletti, the spirited daughter of a well-off silk merchant and Romeo Monticecco , the son of her enemy. Of course the two meet and fall completely, head-over-heels in love.
What I like about Maxwell's Juliet is she is a little older than Shakespeare's(18) and she is well educated and VERY opinionated but still seems young and full of life at the same time. In Maxwell's version Juliet finds her equal in Romeo, and that -along with a healthy dose of phyisicial attraction- is what draws the two so closley together.
I've always wondered what exactly was going on in the heads of the characters and this book answers that perfectly. It filled in all the gaps. But this book isn't a perfect mirror of Shakespeare's play and it isn't meant to be. The story of Romeo and Juliet was in existence long before the famous play and the book draws on these as well. A perfect example is the ending. The lover's reunite one last itme before the poison the Romeo took prior to Juliet's waking takes effect. It's one of the most beautiful and heart breaking things I have ever read. You just need to read it!
And finally...
Dude, this movie is awesome! 10 Things I Hate About You is a re-telling of Shakespeare's The Tameing of the Shrew. This definitly the right way to do a re-telling! It sticks close enough to the original that you can definitly see the similarities but not so much that the story line seems out of place in the modern setting, which takes place at a highschool. And it's hilarious! I hate to say it but I liked Katarina more in this version than Zefferelli's. Kat seemed smart and sarcastic in this version as oppsed to just miserable.
If you are a little weary of Shakespeare you should check these out-they might even inspire you to check out the original.

Look What I Found!
Guess Who Got Netflix!?!
If you guess yours truly, then you're right! It's so cool! And it's free right now because I'm doing the free month trial. So what have I watched?
Where the Heart Is
This was one of those movies I saw on TV one time and really liked and then forgot about. I'm really glad that I rediscovered it! Natalie Portman plays Novalee Nation, a pregnant teen is abandoned by her boyfriend at a Wal-Mart in Oklahoma, where she eventually gives birth. It sounds weird but it's really touching.
Gentlemen Prefer Blondes
Last Monday I watched the new show Smash, which is about the process of making a musical about the life of Norma Jean Baker a.k.a Marilyn Monroe. It inspired me to watch this movie the next day. This was my first Marilyn Monroe movie and I really enjoyed it. it was just a fun movie. The plot wasn't intense or anything but it was very entertaining.
Much Ado About Nothing
I heard about this movie awhile ago but I couldn't find it anywhere-so I was excited that it was on Netflix. It is-of course- based on Shakespeare's play and has an all-star cast. Emma Thompson, Denzel Washington and Keanu Reeves are all in this movie as well as Kate Beckinsale in her first role( don't quote me on that!) I think it is set a couple hundred years after Shakespeare wrote it but other than that it is pretty true to the play. The verbal sparring match between Beatrice and Benedick is hilarious!
The Taming of the Shrew
This movie stars Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton and was directed by Franco Zefferelli, who directed Romeo and Juliet in 1968. Need I say more?
That's it for now. Check back for more reviews because I'm definitely going to watch more movies!

What's on My Mind: R and J Edition
So I watched the 1996 version of Romeo and Juliet again last night ( Shakespeare and Milk Duds...life is good! :-) ) and it made me SUUUUUPPPEER excited for the NEW R and J that is supposed to be released sometime this year, maybe next year. Did you know there was going to be a new one? Yup, there is and it's about time. It's been 15 or 16 years since the last film version.
Hailee Steinfeld of True Grit fame is playing Juliet which seems like a good choice to me. She's the right age and I thought she looked like Olivia Hussey even before I heard the new movie was coming out. Don't you think so?

Douglas Booth is playing Romeo. I've never seen him and anything but it looks like he will fit the part.
I read that it's going to be a classic version which is awesome because it's been a really long time since the last one. I can't even begin to describe to you how excited I am about this!!! I definitely wasn't around in 1968 and I was only 3 in 1996 so this will be the first movie version of R and J that I will be able to see in the theatre. That's so cool!
One of the things I'm most curious about is how much of the original play they will use. For example the infamous balcony scene.
Balcony scene in the 1968 Romeo and Juliet
Balcony scene in the 1996 Romeo and Juliet
They are obviously different. But even though the 1996 version uses more of the original scene, neither of them uses the scene in it's entirety. Will the newest version? And there's other scenes in the play that are skipped altogether in both versions. Will they be used?
Guess we'll have to wait and see...
P.S How do you like the new layout? I'll be changing according to my mood. :-)

Romeo and Juliet: 1968 vs 1996
The best part of having a blog is getting to write about whatever your little heart desires. Thus this post.:-)
The last couple days I have been obessing over R and J and watching both the 1968 and 1996 movies again...and again. So I thought this would be a good time to review them in a serious and studious fashion. Yeah right! I'm totally using this post as an excuse to gush.
Script: Less of the original play is missing in this version, with a few exceptions, such as Juliet's final line (O happy dagger...).
Overall: You have to admit this version is pretty great even if there are a few things that bother me, as I mentioned. I can't watch the first 10 minutes because it's so jarring. I always skip to where we first meet Romeo. And I know it makes more sense in this case, but why did they have to substitute a gun for dagger in the final scene? But I guess I'll let to slip because that scene is so moving, despite the changes.
And that pretty much sums up both movies. Romeo and Juliet is always moving no matter which version your watching.

First up.......
1968
I completely, totally and utterly(enough adverbs? lol) adore this version! It's pretty much the definitive version of Romeo and Juliet. When most people (myself included) think of Romeo and Juliet, they think of Olivia Hussey and Leonard Whiting. They were pretty much perfect together. Here's the break down:
Juliet: Olivia Hussey was only 15 when she played Juliet. I think her age had a lot to do with why her performance was so great. She gave Juliet the perfect mix of innocence and determination.
Romeo: Leonard Whiting was 17 when he played Romeo. He pretty much IS Romeo, which is no small feat. Good looking, English, Shakespeare...what else do you need? Except for maybe a balcony.
Script: Despite being the quintessential classic version, large chunks of the play are missing, which is the only problem I have with this version. Except for Olivia Hussey's laugh, which gets a tad grating after awhile.:-)
Overall: Well, you already know what I think. The acting is great, although a bit over dramatic at times. But that can be easily forgiven, it IS Shakespeare. The music and costumes are beautiful. This version makes a 500 year old play seem fresh even if the movie itself is almost 50 years old. A masterpiece.
1996
I'm not gonna lie. When my English teacher first showed us clips of this version I hated it about as much as I loved the 1968 version. And there are still things that bug me about it. But when I let go of my bias and really watched it I started to love it. Come on, it's Shakespeare AND Leonardo DiCaprio!!!
Setting: This is definitely something I need to talk about. The modern setting is something that myself and others definitely had issues with at first. It just seems so wrong! But when you think about it Verona Beach isn't really like any modern day place. It's more like a fictional place, which makes makes this whole let's-change-the time-period thing easier to accept. And it's so colourful it's hard not to get caught up.
Juliet: Claire Danes does a really good job of making Juliet seem modern and classic at the same time. She sounds very natural which is very impressive because it's so easy to over-act when it comes to Shakespeare. I love that she sounds like she talks like that all the time. She captures the fun and the cautious sides of Juliet.
Romeo: It's Leonardo DiCaprio. Need I say more? :-) He does an amazing job showing that Romeo is multifaceted guy who can sprout poetry to the love of his life and then go josh around with his friends. And he's gorgeous, which helps. lol.

Confessions of a Cosmetics Junkie :-)
It all really started when I graduated high school and suddenly didn't have to get up at 6:30 in the morning. It's really amazing what happens when you don't have to get up that early. I suddenly found that I actually had time to put in to what make-up I'm putting on my face. It's so much more fun when your not in a rush! I'm not a very artistic person. My drawing ability begins and ends with a stick person. But I've always been pretty good at putting colours together, so applying make-up gives me a chance to use my skills without actually having to draw something first. How cool is that?
But I think I might have a problem because the more I look at magazines and try new looks, the more cosmetics I buy. So I figured I would put this to good use and post a little review or something whenever I get something new.
I actually got quite a few things this week:
1.Hard Candy Walk the Line Liquid Eye Liner in Turqouise
I love this stuff! I'm a little obsessed with liquid eyeliner in the first place so maybe I'm a little biased.:-) It's really easy to put on. I have another liquid liner that is a pain to put on because the brush is so small but this one is really nice. The colour is really great too and makes a really cool cat eye. PLUS it was only $6!
2. Rimmel London Bush in Pink Sugar
This is a really nice colour, but pretty light. Lasts all day, which is always a plus, especially for a blush. I'm not gonna lie- I mostly bought it for the crown logo. I'm a sucker for pretty packaging.
3. Covergirl Blast
Flipstick in Cheeky
This was my big
splurge ( it was $9.99). You really get two lipsticks,
though. I really like both the colours and how you can mix them up.
It also lasted for a really long time, which is awesome. It smells a little
strong, but that's about the only downside.
4.
NYC Lipstain in Forever Fiesta and Never Ending Nude
I loooooove lipstain! This one is really nice. I really like the forever fiesta colour(fourth from the left). It last FOREVER!
And it doesn't feel sticky like lip gloss. It's even a good price! The only thing is it's a little dried out so I hope it doesn't die.Friday, January 27, 2012
Well, Hello There!
Hi! Haven't seen you in awhile.Lol. I'm really bored today, so I was flipping through my favourites list and what should I see but the link to this blog, which has been sadly neglected over the last couple of months. I'm under no illusions that anyone is actually reading this thing, but it's been a shamefully long time since I've written anything so I might get back into the habit of posting random stuff here occasionally.
Hmmmm... what should I ramble about today? I finished reading a biography about the Duke and Dutchess of Cambridge yesterday, so now I'm just about DYING to go back to London.(Oh yeah, did I mention I've been to Europe since I wrote last?:-) ) Winter in Canada can be the most dreary thing imaginable. Anywho the book was really good. Reading something that takes place somewhere you have actually been to is so cool.
Anyway I'll write again when I actually have something to SAY!
Ta for now!
